


{"id":12038,"date":"2023-06-15T12:06:23","date_gmt":"2023-06-15T06:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12038"},"modified":"2025-03-30T06:57:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T01:27:38","slug":"mizoram-parachute-gecko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mizoram-parachute-gecko\/","title":{"rendered":"Mizoram Parachute Gecko"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Mizoram Parachute Gecko:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>newly discovered species of gliding geckos<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Mizoram parachute gecko, or <strong>Gekko mizoramensis<\/strong>, is <strong>one of the 14 geckos known to take to the air.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is thought that the species <strong>evolved as a result of being separated from its closest relative, G. popaensis, by the Arakan Mountain<\/strong>s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Unlike other gliding reptiles, which use the bone to form their flying surfaces, these geckos have flaps of skin.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>When the lizards leap off<\/strong> a tall structure, <strong>air resistance pushes the flaps out to their full extent, much like a parachute<\/strong>, slowing the speed at which they fall.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The skin flaps also help to break up their shape, acting as a camouflage<\/strong> against predators.<\/li>\n<li>Their specialised <strong>camouflage and body shape are shared by multiple species<\/strong>, making it hard to tell them apart from one another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What are Geckos?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>reptiles and are found on all continents except Antarctica<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They are believed to be <strong>among the earliest evolving squamates<\/strong>, <strong>the group that contains all lizards, snake<\/strong>s and their close relatives.<\/li>\n<li>There are <strong>more than 1,200 species of gecko<\/strong> today, making up <strong>around a fifth of all known lizards.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They have adapted to <strong>habitats from rain forests, to deserts, to cold mountain slopes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>They had <strong>evolved the adhesive pads on their feet which allow them to climb almost any surface<\/strong> using a network of microscopic hairs.<\/li>\n<li>Like snakes, <strong>most geckos have a clear protective covering over their eyes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A gecko\u2019s <strong>tail may be long and tapering, short and blunt, or even globular<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>tail serves in many species as a storehouse of fat<\/strong> upon which the animal can draw during unfavourable conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike other reptiles, <strong>most geckos have a voice,<\/strong> the call differing with the species and <strong>ranging from a feeble click or chirp to a shrill cackle or bark.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Q1)\u00a0What are Geckos?<\/p>\n<p>They are reptiles and are found on all continents except Antarctica.They are believed to be among the earliest evolving squamates, the group that contains all lizards, snakes and their close relatives.
