{"id":12062,"date":"2026-09-06T14:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T08:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12062"},"modified":"2026-09-06T18:47:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T13:17:18","slug":"anak-krakatau-volcano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/anak-krakatau-volcano\/","title":{"rendered":"Anak Krakatau Volcano"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Anak Krakatau Volcano Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Indonesia&#8217;s Anak Krakatau volcano erupted prompting the cancellation of all flights at Jakarta&#8217;s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Anak Krakatau Volcano<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <strong>s<\/strong><\/span><b>tratovolcano <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located in the <\/span><b>Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>part of the Ring of Fire,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a chain of volcanoes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pacific-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pacific Ocean<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>History<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anak Krakatau, or &#8220;<\/span><b>child of Krakatau&#8221;,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is linked to the <\/span><b>famed Krakatau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose 1883 eruption triggered a period of global cooling.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It emerged from the sea in 1927.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the following years, frequent <\/span><b>strombolian eruptions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resulted in growth of the volcano.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It sits <\/span><b>above multiple magma chambers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2018, an eruption led to the collapse of the southwestern flank of the volcano, with the resulting landslide generating a tsunami.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Stratovolcano?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also called <\/span><b>composite volcano,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are typically <\/span><b>steep-sided, symmetrical cones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> built of alternating layers of lava flows, volcanic ash, and other eruptive products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are typically <\/span><b>found above subduction zones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and they are often part of large volcanically active regions, such as the <\/span><b>Ring of Fire that frames much of the Pacific Ocean.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratovolcanoes <\/span><b>comprise the largest percentage (~<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">60%) of the Earth\u2019s individual volcanoes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are formed from <\/span><b>viscous, sticky lava that does not flow easily.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lava <\/span><b>therefore builds up around the vent,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forming a volcano with steep sides.
