{"id":120886,"date":"2026-08-25T12:21:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T06:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=120886"},"modified":"2026-08-25T12:21:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T06:51:56","slug":"doronicum-sanctum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/doronicum-sanctum\/","title":{"rendered":"Doronicum sanctum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Doronicum sanctum Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers from the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) have announced the discovery of a new plant species and named it as Doronicum sanctum.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Doronicum sanctum<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered in the high-altitude <\/span><b>wilderness of Arunachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>new plant species<\/b> <b>belonging to the sunflower family.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the first time a <\/span><b>member of the Doronicum genus,<\/b> <b>commonly known as Leopard\u2019s bane,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been documented in Northeast India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Nomenclature: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The researchers chose sanctum name because the plant\u2019s type locality is situated <\/span><b>near the Chumi Gyatse Holy Waterfalls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a site held in high spiritual regard by the local population.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was found at an <\/span><b>elevation of approximately 4,086 metres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> above sea level in the Tawang district.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Characteristics<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It possesses <\/span><b>pubescent ray cypselae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which are tiny, hairy seeds at the edge of the flower head, and a caducous pappus, a feathery structure that falls off easily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>dilated flower stalks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (peduncle apex) and flat, lance-shaped green bracts that cup the flower.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has vibrant yellow flowers and heart-shaped leaves, the species appears to be extremely rare.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/researchmatters.in\/news\/new-species-leopards-bane-discovered-tawang-first-its-kind-northeast-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">RM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doronicum sanctum was discovered in the high-altitude wilderness of Arunachal Pradesh.
