


{"id":121556,"date":"2026-08-29T13:36:48","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=121556"},"modified":"2026-08-29T13:36:48","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:06:48","slug":"open-general-export-licence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/open-general-export-licence\/","title":{"rendered":"Open General Export Licence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Open General Export Licence\u00a0 Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence has undertaken a comprehensive set of reforms to simplify the Defence Export Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and the Open General Export Licence (OGEL) framework.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Open General Export Licence<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was first introduced<\/span><b> in 2019,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> following demands from exporters, to make defence exports easier.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>standing one-time export authorization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It enables eligible exporters to <\/span><b>self-generate export authorisations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for multiple <\/span><b>consignments of specified defence items<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, without seeking a separate authorisation for each consignment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>OEGL Framework<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government <\/span><b>has merged three existing OGEL SOPs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covering major platforms and equipment, parts and components, and intra-company transfer of technology into a single framework.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Validity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> OGEL validity has been <\/span><b>increased from two to three years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reducing the frequency of renewals and associated compliance requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Countries covered:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> OGEL coverage has been <\/span><b>expanded from 41 to all countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, except negative\/sensitive nations and those facing UN Security Council sanctions or arms embargoes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new provision facilitates Indian companies having long-term contracts or agreements with <\/span><b>Foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (FOEMs).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OGEL may be <\/span><b>granted for eligible items and the particular FOEM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with validity aligned with the underlying contract or agreement, subject to prescribed conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Expanded Coverage:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The range of items covered under OGEL has been expanded, providing greater flexibility to eligible exporters.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The revised framework <\/span><b>also permits civil-end-use exports of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> specified parts and components of <\/span><b>small-calibre arms and protective equipment,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> further broadening legitimate international business opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2304130&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Open General Export Licence was first introduced in 2019, following demands from exporters, to make defence exports easier.
