


{"id":12158,"date":"2023-06-17T11:51:12","date_gmt":"2023-06-17T06:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12158"},"modified":"2025-03-30T07:42:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T02:12:32","slug":"nauradehi-and-durgavati-wildlife-sanctuaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nauradehi-and-durgavati-wildlife-sanctuaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Nauradehi and Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>:\u00a0 It covers nearly 1197 km\u00b2 area across three districts, i.e. <strong>Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur, of Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>largest wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The entire Sanctuary is <strong>situated on a plateau<\/strong>, <strong>forming part of the upper Vindhyan range<\/strong> and has a <strong>connecting forest patch with Veerangana Durgawati Sanctuary<\/strong> in Damoh district towards the east, which extends up to Bandhavgarh National Park.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Sanctuary is <strong>classified under Deccan peninsula biogeographic region<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three fourth of sanctuary falls in the Yamuna,<\/strong> and <strong>one-fourth<\/strong> of the sanctuary <strong>falls in the Naramada basin.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wildlife Corridor<\/strong>: It acts as a <strong>corridor for Panna Tiger Reserve and Satpura Tiger Reserve<\/strong> while indirectly connecting Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve via Rani Durgawati Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation: Dry deciduous type<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>:\u00a0 The <strong>chief floral elements include Teak, Saja, Dhaora, Bhirra<\/strong>, Ber, Amla etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>: The chief faunal element includes <strong>Nilgai, Chinkara, Chital, Sambhar, Black Buck, Barking deer, Commom Langur Rhesus Macaque<\/strong>, Fresh water Turtles, Spotted Grey Creeper, Cranes, Egrets, Lapwings etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>About Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: Rani Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary is located in <strong>the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>named after Rani Durgavati, a queen of the Gond people.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The sanctuary was <strong>notified by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1996<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Singorgarh Fort<\/strong> is located within the sanctuary<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>: The vegetation is predominantly <strong>tropical mixed dry deciduous forest.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: <strong>Pterocarpus marsupium, Terminalia alata, Anogeissus latifolia<\/strong>, Madhuca indica, Butea monosperma, and Lagerstroemia parviflora are the most common trees in the sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It hosts 18 species of mammals, including the <strong>leopard, wolf, jackal, Indian fox, striped hyena, and sloth bear.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Besides these, the sanctuary is also home to 177 species of birds, 16 species of fish and reptiles, and 10 species of amphibians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is a Wildlife Sanctuary?<\/h3>\n<p>A Wildlife Sanctuary can be termed as a large geographical piece of land, usually forested, where animals are kept in their natural habitats.
