{"id":12238,"date":"2026-05-13T11:48:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T06:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12238"},"modified":"2026-05-13T16:52:59","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T11:22:59","slug":"international-fund-for-agricultural-development-ifad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-fund-for-agricultural-development-ifad\/","title":{"rendered":"International Fund for Agricultural Development, Membership, Latest News"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Fund for Agricultural Development Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Government of India and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) launched a new eight-year Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP) for 2026\u20132033.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Fund for Agricultural Development<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>international financial institution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a <\/span><b>specialized agency of the United Nations.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established as an international financial institution in <\/span><b>1977 through United Nations General Assembly Resolution.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objective:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is <\/span><b>dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>rural areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of developing countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IFAD is the only UN agency exclusively dedicated to transforming agriculture, rural economies and food systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seeks to <\/span><b>empower rural people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>increase their food security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, improve the nutrition of their families.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its projects and programmes are carried <\/span><b>out in remote and environmentally fragile locations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including least-developed countries and Small Island developing States.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>member of the United Nations Development Group (UNDP).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Grants:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> IFAD <\/span><b>extends two types of grants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, depending on the nature of the innovation and the scope of intervention: <\/span><b>global or regional grants and country-specific grants.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IFAD grants support research, innovation, institutional change, and pro-poor technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Membership:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Currently, <\/span><b>IFAD has 180 Member States<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including India.
