{"id":12286,"date":"2023-06-20T10:12:34","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T04:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12286"},"modified":"2025-03-30T08:28:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T02:58:48","slug":"national-internet-exchange-of-india-nixi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-internet-exchange-of-india-nixi\/","title":{"rendered":"National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About<\/strong> <strong>the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was established in 2003 as a <strong>not-for-profit organization<\/strong> under <strong>the Companies Act 2013.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is tasked to <strong>increase Internet penetration and adoption<\/strong> in India by facilitating the various infrastructure aspects to enable the Internet ecosystem to be managed and used by the masses.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>four services<\/strong> which come under the NIXI:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Setting IXPs,<\/strong> towards Building Internet Exchange Points<\/li>\n<li><strong>.IN Registry<\/strong> towards building the .in domain digital identity<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers<\/strong> (IRINN) towards Internet Protocol (<strong>IPv4 and<\/strong> <strong>IPv6) addresses adoption<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data Centre services<\/strong> under NIXI-CSC towards data storage services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Initiatives of NIXI<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IPv6 Expert Panel (IP Guru):<\/strong> IP Guru is a group to extend support to all the Indian entities that are finding it technically challenging to migrate and adopt IPv6.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s a joint effort of DOT, MeitY &amp; community to promote IPv6.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NIXI Academy:<\/strong> NIXI Academy is created to educate technical\/non-technical people in India to learn and relearn technologies like IPv6 which are normally not taught in Educational Institutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NIXI-IP-INDEX:<\/strong> NIXI has developed an IPv6 index portal for the Internet community. This portal will <strong>showcase the IPv6 adoption<\/strong> rate in India and across the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the global organization responsible for managing the coordination and administration of the Internet&#8217;s unique identifiers.
