2,367-kg EOS-05, an advanced <\/span><b>Earth Observation Satellite <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(EOS), aboard <\/span><b>GSLV <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mk II-F17 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission is significant because EOS-05 is India\u2019s <\/span><b>first <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dedicated imaging satellite placed in a geosynchronous orbit, enabling near-continuous observation of the Indian landmass.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The success also provided a major boost to the GSLV programme, following the failure of the EOS-03 mission in 2021 and subsequent setbacks involving PSLV missions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>A New Capability in Earth Observation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>\u201cEye in the Sky\u201d:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EOS-05<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been positioned in a high-altitude orbit of around 36,000 km, above the South Asian landmass, at an inclination of about 19.28\u00b0 to the equator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Geosynchronous orbit means<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the satellite&#8217;s orbital period matches Earth&#8217;s rotation, allowing it to return to the same position relative to Earth at regular intervals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A geostationary orbit is a special case of geosynchronous orbit\u2014circular, equatorial and appearing stationary over one point on Earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EOS-05&#8217;s inclined orbit is therefore more precisely described as geosynchronous rather than strictly geostationary.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike conventional <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/types-of-orbits\/\" target=\"_blank\">Low Earth Orbit (<\/a><\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/types-of-orbits\/\" target=\"_blank\">LEO<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a an <\/span><b>almost-continuous watch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the Indian region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Advanced imaging:<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul
