


{"id":12306,"date":"2023-06-21T08:33:59","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T03:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12306"},"modified":"2025-03-30T08:36:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-30T03:06:15","slug":"what-is-einstien-telescope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-einstien-telescope\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Einstien Telescope?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Einstien Telescope:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>advanced gravitational-wave observatory<\/strong>, currently <strong>in the<\/strong> <strong>planning stage.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>builds on the success of current<\/strong>, second-generation laser-interferometric detectors Advanced Virgo and Advanced<strong> LIGO<\/strong>, whose breakthrough discoveries of merging black holes (BHs) and neutron stars over the past 5 years have ushered scientists into the new era of gravitational-wave astronomy.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Einstein Telescope <strong>will achieve a greatly improved sensitivity by increasing the size of the interferometer <\/strong>from the 3km arm length of the Virgo detector to 10km, and by <strong>implementing a series of new technologies.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>expected sensitivity<\/strong> of the Einstein Telescope <strong>will be at least a factor of ten times that of Ligo.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will m<strong>ake it possible, for the first time, to explore the Universe<\/strong> through gravitational waves <strong>along its cosmic history up to the cosmological dark ages<\/strong>, shedding light on open questions of fundamental physics and cosmology.<\/li>\n<li>It will <strong>probe the physics near black-hole horizons<\/strong> (from tests of general relativity to quantum gravity), <strong>help understand the nature of dark matter<\/strong>, and the <strong>nature of dark energy <\/strong>and possible modifications of general relativity at cosmological scales.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Its low-frequency sensitivity<\/strong> will allow us to detect intermediate-mass black holes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What are Gravitational Waves?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>&#8216;ripples&#8217; in space-time<\/strong> <strong>caused by<\/strong> some of the most <strong>violent and energetic processes in the Universe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Albert Einstein predicted<\/strong> the existence of gravitational waves in 1916 <strong>in his general theory of relativity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Einstein&#8217;s mathematics showed that <strong>massive accelerating objects<\/strong> (things like neutron stars or black holes orbiting each other) <strong>would disrupt space-time<\/strong> in such a way <strong>that &#8216;waves&#8217; of undulating space-time would propagate in all directions<\/strong> away from the source.<\/li>\n<li>These cosmic ripples <strong>would travel at the speed of light<\/strong>, <strong>carrying with them information<\/strong> about their origins, as well as clues to the nature of gravity itself.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>strongest gravitational waves are produced by cataclysmic events<\/strong> such as colliding black holes, supernovae, and colliding neutron stars.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What are Gravitational Waves?<\/h3>\n<p>They are &#8216;ripples&#8217; in space-time caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the Universe.
