{"id":12330,"date":"2025-10-27T01:37:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T20:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12330"},"modified":"2025-10-29T13:19:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T07:49:52","slug":"research-and-analysis-wing-raw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/research-and-analysis-wing-raw\/","title":{"rendered":"Research and Analysis Wing (R&#038;AW)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Research and Analysis Wing (R&amp;AW):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was established in 1968 to <strong>handle India\u2019s international intelligence affairs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>At present, R&amp;AW is <strong>under <\/strong>the aegis of<strong> the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Working mechanism<\/strong>: <strong>It collects <\/strong>military, economic, scientific, and political<strong> intelligence through covert and overt operations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The agency is also charged with <strong>monitoring terrorist elements and smuggling<\/strong> rings that transport weapons and ammunition into India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formation:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Until 1968,<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ib\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Intelligence Bureau<\/strong> (IB)<\/a> was <strong>responsible for India\u2019s internal intelligence <\/strong>and <strong>also handled external intelligence<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>However, <strong>after the 1962 China-India war<\/strong> and the <strong>Indo-Pakistani war in 1965<\/strong>, <strong>India established<\/strong> a separate and distinct external intelligence organization\u2013the <strong>R&amp;AW.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Since its inception, RAW is credited with providing intelligence support to many significant operations on foreign soil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Intelligence Bureau (IB)?<\/h3>\n<p>IB is an internal intelligence agency of India which is used to gather intelligence from within India and also execute counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism tasks. In addition to domestic intelligence responsibilities, the IB is particularly tasked with intelligence collection in border areas, following the 1951 recommendations of the Himmatsinhji Committee (also known as the North and North-East Border Committee), a task entrusted to military intelligence organizations, prior to independence in 1947. It comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
