Angul, Talcher, Eluru and Haldia were among the other leading cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why Did Lucknow Top Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucknow topped the <\/span><b>Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> among cities with more than 10 lakh population, scoring <\/span><b>198 out of 200 points<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, due to its sustained efforts to control major sources of air pollution and improve urban air-quality management.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Waste segregation and collection<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helped improve municipal waste management.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mechanised road sweeping<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helped reduce pollution caused by road dust.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Electric vehicles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were promoted to reduce vehicular emissions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Open waste burning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was controlled to prevent additional particulate pollution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Green spaces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were expanded to support a cleaner urban environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Community participation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the local level strengthened clean-air initiatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>PM10 levels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also declined significantly compared with the 2017\u201318 baseline.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>PM10 Reduction in Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> highlighted a significant improvement in <\/span><b>PM10 levels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across several Indian cities. Out of <\/span><b>130 cities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covered under the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/national-clean-air-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Clean Air Programme<\/a><\/strong>, <\/span><b>108 cities recorded lower PM10 concentrations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared with the 2017\u201318 baseline. As many as <\/span><b>72 cities achieved more than 20% reduction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while <\/span><b>26 cities recorded reductions of more than 40%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: Programme?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>National Clean Air Programme (NCAP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a government initiative launched in <\/span><b>January 2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve air quality in Indian cities by addressing major sources of air pollution through <\/span><b>city-specific action plans, monitoring, enforcement and public participation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Launch:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The NCAP was launched in <\/span><b>2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Main Objective:<\/b><span aria-level=\"1\"><b>Target for Pollution Reduction:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The revised NCAP framework targets up to <\/span><b>40% reduction in PM10 concentration or achievement of the
