With new vigour the city became the heart and <\/span><b>hearth of the Tuluva culture.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In later times, the city became the <\/span><b>provincial headquarters of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/hoysala-dynasty\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hoysalas<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and then the <\/span><b>Vijayanagara Empire<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The city was <\/span><b>expanded with a new fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">during this period.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, Barakur witnessed the <\/span><b>rule of Keladi Nayaks, Haider, and Tipu of Mysore and the British.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The city had <\/span><b>ten extensions called Keris<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><b>each <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being <\/span><b>named after its professional residents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
