{"id":12354,"date":"2025-06-13T12:32:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T07:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12354"},"modified":"2025-06-13T13:24:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T07:54:18","slug":"global-gender-gap-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-gender-gap-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Gender Gap Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Global Gender Gap Report Latest News<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has been ranked 131 out of 148 countries in the World Economic Forum&#8217;s Global Gender Gap Report 2025, slipping two places from its position last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About Global Gender Gap Index<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>annual index<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed to measure gender equality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It benchmarks gender-based <\/span><b>gaps in four areas:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> economic participation and opportunity; educational attainment; health and survival; and political empowerment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is released by the <\/span><b>World Economic Forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (WEF).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the longest-standing index tracking the progress of numerous countries\u2019 efforts towards closing these gaps over time since its inception in 2006.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highlights of 2024 Report<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s gender parity score stands at just 64.1 per cent, placing it among the lowest-ranked countries in the South Asian region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>educational attainment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, India scored 97.1%, reflecting <\/span><b>gains in female literacy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and tertiary education enrolment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One dimension where India increases parity is in Economic Participation and Opportunity, where its score improves by 0.9 per cent to 40.7 per cent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India also records higher parity in health and survival, driven by improved scores in sex ratio at birth and in healthy life expectancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India recorded a <\/span><b>slight drop in political empowerment,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with parity dropping by 0.6 points since the previous edition.
