This route <\/span><b>connected <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>region of Desh to the port city of Kalyan.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><b>15th century<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it came under the <\/span><b>Bahmani Sultanate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Later, in the <\/span><b>16th century,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it was taken over by the <\/span><b>Ahmadnagar Sultanate.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1595<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a<\/span><b> Maratha chief<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> named <\/span><b>Maloji Bhosale <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>honored by the Ahmadnagar Sultan,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bahadur Nizam Shah.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Maloji Bhosale<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the <\/span><b>grandfather of Shivaji Maharaj.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Sultan gave him control of Shivneri <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Chakan forts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Shivaji Maharaj<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>born at Shivneri Fort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on February 19, <\/span><b>1630<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Some records suggest he was born in 1627. He spent his early childhood years growing up within the fort&#8217;s walls.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An <\/span><b>English traveler named Fraze visited t<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he fort in 1673. He wrote that the fort was very strong and could not be easily defeated.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Shivneri Fort <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>triangular-shaped <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hill fort and has its entrance from the southwest side of the hill.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort stretches for about 1 kilometer (1 mile). It has <\/span><b>seven winding gates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that are very well protected<\/span><b>. All around the fort,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> there are <\/span><b>strong mud walls.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Inside the fort,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you can find several important buildings. These include a <\/span><b>prayer hall, a tomb, and a mosque.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>At the very center of the fort,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> there is a<\/span><b> water pond called &#8216;Badami Talav<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;.
