{"id":124836,"date":"2026-09-17T13:49:42","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T08:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=124836"},"modified":"2026-09-17T13:49:42","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T08:19:42","slug":"ariosoma-cmfriense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ariosoma-cmfriense\/","title":{"rendered":"Ariosoma cmfriense"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ariosoma cmfriense Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists recently discovered a new species of conger eel named Ariosoma cmfriense from the deep waters of the Arabian Sea.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ariosoma cmfriense<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a new species of <\/span><b>conger eel.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conger eels are<\/span><b> powerful fish<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with an <\/span><b>elongated, snake-like body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is <\/span><b>smooth and scaleless.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was found in the <\/span><b>waters off Kollam, Kerala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, at a depth of about 300 metres.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discovery was made by scientists from the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi, as part of the research component under the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/deep-ocean-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Ocean Mission (DOM)<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a<\/span><b> national programme of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ariosoma cmfriense has several <\/span><b>distinct features.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These include a relatively low total vertebral count of 135 and 127-130 lateral-line pores.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>preanal length<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>nearly half its total length.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also has two supraorbital pores and a dorsal fin that begins just ahead of the pectoral fin base.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fish has a p<\/span><b>lain pectoral fin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>dark patch over the operculum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>fine black speckling below the lateral line<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a feature not observed in the other related species.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etvbharat.com\/amp\/en\/bharat\/new-eel-species-discovered-from-arabian-sea-named-after-cmfri-enn26091604765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>ETVB<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ariosoma cmfriense is a new species of conger eel found in the waters off Kollam, Kerala.
