It also depends on the actions of individuals and communities in their everyday lives. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/the-united-nations-un\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> describes these individuals as <\/span><b>\u201ceveryday architects of peace\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; people who take local action, promote stability and help create the conditions for lasting peace. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2026 theme also presents peace as more than simply the absence of war.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It connects peace with everyday experiences of safety, dignity, opportunity and cooperation, which enable societies to address wider global challenges collectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why is International Day of Peace Observed on 21 September?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/united-nations-general-assembly-unga\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U<strong>nited Nations General Assembly<\/strong><\/span><\/a> <b>established the International Day of Peace in 1981.<\/b> <b>21 September was chosen as the date for the observance because it coincides with the opening day of the regular session of the United Nations General Assembly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, providing an opportunity for the UN to focus global attention on peace and encourage 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How is the International Day of Peace Observed?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United Nations marks the day through activities promoting peace, dialogue and non-violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Peace Bell Ceremony:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The UN Secretary-General rings the Peace Bell at UN Headquarters in New York.
