


{"id":125052,"date":"2026-09-18T14:36:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T09:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=125052"},"modified":"2026-09-18T14:39:37","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T09:09:37","slug":"global-gender-gap-index-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-gender-gap-index-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Gender Gap Index 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Global Gender Gap Index Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India retained the 131st rank on the Global Gender Gap Index 2026 released by the World Economic Forum recently, with Iceland, Finland and Norway maintaining their top three slots respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Global Gender Gap Index 2026<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>annual index <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">designed to measure <\/span><b>gender equality.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is released by the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/world-economic-forum-wef\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>World Economic Forum (WEF)<\/b><\/a><\/span><b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It benchmarks the current state and evolution of gender parity across <\/span><b>four key dimensions (subindexes): Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since <\/span><b>launching in 2006<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is the longest-standing index tracking the progress of numerous countries\u2019 efforts towards closing these gaps over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Global Gender Gap Index 2026 Highlights<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Globally,<\/b> <b>69.2 percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the gender gap has now been closed, up by 0.4 percentage points over the last year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Iceland <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is still the world\u2019s <\/span><b>number one<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with<\/span><b> 93 percent <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of its gender gap closed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Finland and Norway follow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 87.2 percent and 85.7 percent, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Namibia is fourth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 84.5 percent, followed by the UK, New Zealand, Sweden, Australia, Germany, and Ireland.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia cracked the top 10 for the first time.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Across the 143 economies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covered in both the 2025 and 2026 editions, the overall score<\/span><b> increased by 0.4 percentage points.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Education <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recorded the<\/span><b> largest increase <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">year on year, rising from 95.3 percent to 96.9 percent.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economic participation score increased from 61.3 percent to 61.7 percent, and health and survival improved from 96.1 percent to 96.2 percent.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Political empowerment, however, moved in the opposite direction, sliding down from 22.5 percent to 22.1 percent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stands at <\/span><b>131st spot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>64.5 percent.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Only 14 countries ranked below India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the index of 145 countries. These include <\/span><b>Papua New Guinea,<\/b> <b>Kuwait<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Oman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Qatar, Tajikistan, <\/span><b>Saudi Arabia, Egypt, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morocco, Mali, Algeria, and Congo.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Chad <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the <\/span><b>lowest-ranked <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">country in the index, with <\/span><b>Iran and Pakistan joining it in the bottom three.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Overall, India&#8217;s gender parity increased by 4.3 percentage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> points <\/span><b>since 2006, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">primarily due to gains in educational attainment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><b>Economic Participation and Opportunity subindex,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India reported a<\/span><b> 41.2 percent <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parity score, 0.5 higher than the previous edition but 3.5 percentage points lower from its best result in 2013.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/indias-rank-on-global-gender-gap-index-unchanged-at-131-iceland-retains-top-spot\/article71471699.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>TH<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global Gender Gap Index is an annual index released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
