{"id":12511,"date":"2023-06-26T01:53:09","date_gmt":"2023-06-25T20:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12511"},"modified":"2025-04-01T19:41:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T14:11:29","slug":"skin-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/skin-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Skin Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Skin Bank<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A skin bank is a place where <strong>cadaveric skin is processed and preserved under optimal conditions<\/strong> from where it can be used for the benefit of Burn victims.<\/li>\n<li>Skin can be donated after Death within <strong>6 hours from the time of Death.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Anyone can Donate Skin <strong>irrespective of sex &amp; blood group,<\/strong> the minimum age of the donor <strong>should be 18 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There is no upper age limit, even a 100-year-old person can donate his skin and it will be used for treatment.<\/li>\n<li>The skin of persons <strong>suffering from AIDS, Hepatitis B &amp; C, Sexually Transmitted Diseases<\/strong>, Skin Cancer, Active skin Disease and Septicemia are considered <strong>unfit for donation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>At the time of skin harvesting, a blood sample from the body of the deceased is also taken and a necessary test for HIV, Viral markers &amp; Hepatitis is carried out at the Skin Bank.<\/li>\n<li>An old history of trauma or old history of burns does not make the donor unfit for skin donation.<\/li>\n<li>Skin is generally preserved in 85% glycerol solution. It is stored between 4-5 degree Celsius and it can be stored for a period of up to 5 years.<\/li>\n<li>The country has <strong>16 skin banks<\/strong> \u2014 a facility where the skin of deceased persons can be donated \u2014 with seven in Maharashtra, four in Chennai, three in Karnataka, and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q) What is Glycerol?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Glycerol is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid with a sweet taste.
