Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra&#8217;s Chandrapur district unveiled vibrant wildlife statistics during its annual &#8216;Machan Census on Waterholes&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the Chandrapur district in <\/span><b>Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> largest and oldest tiger reserve in Maharashtra.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area of 1,727 sq.km.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Established in 1955, the reserve consists of <\/span><b>Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word \u2018Tadoba\u2019 is derived from the <\/span><b>name of the God \u201cTadoba\u201d or \u201cTaru,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d which is <\/span><b>praised by local tribal people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of this region, and \u201c<\/span><b>Andhari<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d is derived from the <\/span><b>name of the Andhari Rive<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">r that flows in this area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has corridor <\/span><b>linkages with Nagzira-Navegaon and <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pench-tiger-reserve-upsc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pench Tiger Reserves <\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">within the State.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a hilly topography with an average elevation of 200\u2013350 metres.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Drainage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: There are two lakes and one waterway in the reserve: T<\/span><b>adoba Lake, Kolsa Lake, and the Tadoba River.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The reserve falls in the<\/span><b> central plateau province of the Deccan peninsula, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with<\/span><b> tropical dry deciduous forests <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a typical central Indian faunal assemblage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major tree species are: <\/span><b>Teak, Ain, Bamboo, Bija, Dhaoda, H<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aldu, Salai, Semal and Tendu.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along the moist areas, species like <\/span><b>Mango, Jamun and Arjun <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are found. <\/span><b>Bamboo <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Dendrocalamus strictus) is spread <\/span><b>over 40% of the habitat.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from <\/span><b>tigers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the reserve is home to <\/span><b>Indian leopards, sloth bears, Indian gaur (bison), wild dogs (dholes), striped hyenas, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">marsh crocodiles, sambar deer, chital (spotted deer), barking deer, and four-horned antelopes (chousingha).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also a <\/span><b>birdwatcher\u2019s paradise, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with over 250 species of birds, including <\/span><b>crested serpent eagles, grey-headed fish eagles,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> paradise
