The 2026 observance is also significant as it marks the <\/span><b>first Ayurveda Day celebrated on the newly fixed date of 23 September<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, following the Government of India&#8217;s decision in 2025 to give the occasion a fixed annual date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>11th Ayurveda Day 2026 Date and Theme<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>11th Ayurveda Day 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be observed on <\/span><b>23 September 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The theme for this year is <\/span><b>\u201cAyurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The theme highlights the role of Ayurveda in promoting health, preventive care, scientific research and holistic wellbeing.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than <\/span><b>9,700 activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been reported across <\/span><b>30 States and Union Territories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of the nationwide Ayurveda Day celebrations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than <\/span><b>3 lakh participants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have registered through the official Ayurveda Day platform, while around <\/span><b>89 lakh citizens<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have pledged their support for Ayurveda.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">States such as <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have recorded substantial participation in the celebrations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurveda Day 2026 has also received international participation, with activities reported from <\/span><b>10 countries and territories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and more than <\/span><b>1,900 participants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The participating countries and territories include the <\/span><b>United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Spain, Algeria, Australia, Denmark, Iceland, the United States and the British Indian Ocean Territory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official Ayurveda Day microsite provides a platform for citizens, institutions and organisations to <\/span><b>register, participate in and report Ayurveda Day activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Why is Ayurveda Day Celebrated?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Ayurveda Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is observed to increase awareness about Ayurveda and highlight its potential contribution to health, wellness and preventive healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The observance aims to promote <\/span><b>Ayurveda at the national and global level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and increase awareness of its traditional principles and practices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seeks to explore how Ayurveda can contribute to <\/span><b>national health policies and public health programmes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurveda Day focuses on using the potential of Ayurveda to help reduce the <\/span><b>disease burden and associated morbidity and mortality<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It highlights Ayurveda&#8217;s holistic approach to maintaining the health and wellbeing of people while also recognising the importance of <\/span><b>plants, animals and the environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebrations aim to improve <\/span><b>public trust and awareness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through community participation involving citizens, students, farmers and other groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurveda Day promotes a shift from <\/span><b>illness to wellness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with greater emphasis on prevention, healthy living and holistic wellbeing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also seeks to create greater awareness about Ayurveda as a traditional medical system that is increasingly being examined through <\/span><b>scientific and evidence-based research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Ayurveda Day 2026 History<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurveda Day was first observed in <\/span><b>2016<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to recognise and promote India&#8217;s traditional system of medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before 2026, Ayurveda Day was generally observed on <\/span><b>Dhanteras or Dhanwantari Jayanti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, meaning its date changed every year according to the Hindu lunar calendar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To give the observance a fixed annual identity, the Government of India issued a <\/span><b>Gazette notification in March 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> declaring <\/span><b>23 September as Ayurveda Day every year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, <\/span><b>2026 is the first year in which Ayurveda Day is being observed on the newly fixed date of 23 September<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fixed date is intended to make national and international planning easier and encourage wider participation in Ayurveda Day activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The date of <\/span><b>23 September coincides with the autumnal equinox<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when day and night are nearly equal in length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea of balance associated with the equinox also reflects Ayurveda&#8217;s emphasis on maintaining balance between the <\/span><b>body, mind and surrounding environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision gives Ayurveda Day a more consistent calendar identity and is expected to support its wider recognition at the international level.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>11th Ayurveda Day 2026 Significance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>11th Ayurveda Day 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is significant because Ayurveda is increasingly being connected with <\/span><b>public healthcare, education, scientific research, digital healthcare, regulation and international cooperation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Healthcare Infrastructure, Telemedicine and Insurance<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government is expanding Ayush healthcare services through the <\/span><b>National Ayush Mission (NAM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/national-health-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>National Health Mission<\/b><\/a><b> (NHM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between <\/span><b>2014-15 and 2025-26<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Central Government released more than <\/span><b>\u20b96,406.99 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through NAM to States and Union Territories for the expansion and integration of Ayush healthcare.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Existing Ayush clinics and dispensaries are being upgraded into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aam\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Ayushman Arogya Mandirs<\/b><\/a><b> (Ayush)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to provide better-equipped healthcare services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of <\/span><b>19 September 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>12,260 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were functional against a target of 12,500.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayush services are also being provided alongside conventional medical care in <\/span><b>13,249 public health facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These facilities include <\/span><b>6,302 Primary Health Centres, 3,191 Community Health Centres, 475 District Hospitals and 3,281 other local health facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government supports the salaries of <\/span><b>25,322 Ayush doctors and 5,666 Ayush paramedics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> working across States and Union Territories.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government is also upgrading existing hospitals, establishing new integrated hospitals, improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the availability of essential Ayush medicines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government&#8217;s <\/span><b>eSanjeevani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> platform provides free telemedicine services and has served <\/span><b>more than 50 crore patients<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including through its <\/span><b>Ayush OPD services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>2024, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/insurance-regulatory-and-development-authority-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>IRDAI<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> directed insurers to offer products or add-ons covering different systems of medicine, including Ayurveda, under board-approved policies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><b>10 February 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, signed a Common Empanelment MoU with the <\/span><b>General Insurance Council<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, covering <\/span><b>32 general insurance companies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for cashless treatment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AIIA also launched an <\/span><b>Ayush Health Insurance Helpline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help beneficiaries with insurance-related queries and improve awareness about Ayush coverage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Ayurveda Education, Research and Digital Initiatives<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expansion of Ayurveda healthcare is being supported by greater investment in education, research and digital resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the National Ayush Mission, the government supports the establishment and expansion of <\/span><b>undergraduate and postgraduate Ayurveda institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, along with pharmacy and paramedical programmes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of <\/span><b>13 March 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, India had <\/span><b>593 Ayurveda colleges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>45,245 undergraduate seats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>5,673 postgraduate seats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under NAM, <\/span><b>17 Ayush colleges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been approved for establishment, of which <\/span><b>12 are focused on Ayurvedic education<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>AYURGYAN Scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, launched in <\/span><b>2021-22<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, provides financial support for research and development in traditional medicine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of <\/span><b>\u20b917.79 crore across 34 projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ayurveda received <\/span><b>\u20b99.38 crore for 17 dedicated projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>AYUR SWASTHYA Yojana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, implemented from 2021 to 2026, supported clinical research, drug research, education, public health initiatives and Centres of Excellence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of <\/span><b>25 projects supported through late 2025, 22 focused on or included Ayurveda interventions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme supported <\/span><b>28 Centres of Excellence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including <\/span><b>22 focused on Ayurveda-related research and healthcare delivery<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> coordinates scientific research through a network of <\/span><b>30 national and regional institutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>SPARK Programme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> encourages undergraduate Ayurveda students to undertake short-term research projects. Between <\/span><b>2022-23 and 2024-25, 289 Ayurveda colleges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> benefited from the programme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>March 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, CCRAS partnered with <\/span><b>Anuvadini AI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an AI-based translation platform developed by the Ministry of Education&#8217;s AICTE, to translate research material and journals into <\/span><b>13 Indian languages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This initiative aims to make Ayurveda research and educational resources more accessible to students, practitioners and the wider public.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Quality Standards and Ayurveda Aahara<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government is also strengthening the regulatory framework for Ayurvedic medicines and traditional dietary products.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurvedic medicines are regulated under the <\/span><b>Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and Drugs Rules, 1945<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manufacturers must follow <\/span><b>Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and meet applicable safety, efficacy and pharmacopoeial standards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government Drug Inspectors conduct sampling and testing to monitor the quality of Ayurvedic medicines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A specialised <\/span><b>Ayush vertical within the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supports regulatory oversight.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>e-Aushadhi portal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enables paperless processing and real-time tracking of drug manufacturing licence applications.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/fssai\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Food Safety and Standards Authority of India<\/b><\/a><b> (FSSAI)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, has introduced standards for <\/span><b>Ayurveda Aahara<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The framework provides standards for recognised Ayurvedic dietary products and supports licensing and registration of manufacturers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These measures aim to improve <\/span><b>product quality, consumer safety, transparency and public confidence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Ayurvedic products.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>WHO Recognition and Global Expansion<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The international recognition of Ayurveda has expanded through global partnerships, standardisation efforts and cooperation in traditional medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayurveda-related terminology has been included in the <\/span><b>World Health Organization&#8217;s International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision (ICD-11) module<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This allows <\/span><b>Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani diagnoses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be recorded using standardised codes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Standardised terminology can support <\/span><b>health data collection, research, policymaking and health planning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has signed <\/span><b>27 country-to-country MoUs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for cooperation in traditional medicine and Homoeopathy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has also signed <\/span><b>16 MoUs with international institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Ayush Academic Chairs and <\/span><b>57 institute-to-institute MoUs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for collaborative research and academic cooperation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has established <\/span><b>46 Ayush Information Cells across 43 foreign countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The International Ayush Fellowship and Scholarship Programme has provided <\/span><b>104 scholarships to foreign nationals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/world-health-organisation\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>WHO<\/b><\/a><b> Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, serves as an important global research and policy hub for traditional medicine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has also worked with WHO on standard training resources for Ayurveda and Unani and participated in international workshops and research
