{"id":12635,"date":"2024-04-02T06:49:39","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T01:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12635"},"modified":"2025-04-01T20:29:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T14:59:54","slug":"what-is-zero-fir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-zero-fir\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Zero FIR?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Zero FIR<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It refers to a First Investigation Report (FIR) that is <strong>registered irrespective of the area<\/strong> where the offense is committed.<\/li>\n<li>The police in such a case can no longer claim that they have no jurisdiction.<\/li>\n<li>It is later <strong>transferred to<\/strong> the police station that has the <strong>actual jurisdiction<\/strong> so that the investigation can begin.<\/li>\n<li>It was introduced on the recommendation of the <strong>Justice Verma Committee<\/strong> formed at the backdrop of the brutal Nirbhaya gang rape in Delhi in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>This puts a legal obligation on the police to begin an investigation and take quick action without the excuse of the absence of jurisdiction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> It is to ensure the victim doesn\u2019t have to run from pillar to post to get a police complaint registered.
