{"id":126624,"date":"2026-09-28T15:09:38","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T09:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=126624"},"modified":"2026-09-28T15:09:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T09:39:39","slug":"india-ranks-10th-at-worldskills-shanghai-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/india-ranks-10th-at-worldskills-shanghai-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"India Ranks 10th at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, Medals for Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>India ranks 10th at WorldSkills Shanghai <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which concluded on 27 September 2026. <\/span><b>India won six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> improving upon its 13th-place finish at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>WorldSkills Competition<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>WorldSkills Competition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an international vocational skills competition in which young professionals demonstrate excellence across a wide range of technical and occupational skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>48th edition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was held in <\/span><b>Shanghai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 22 to 27 September 2026, with competition rounds conducted from 23 to 26 September.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 1,400 young competitors from around 70 countries and regions participated in the event.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The competition is held <\/span><b>every two years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and promotes international occupational standards, knowledge exchange and excellence in vocational skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Also Read:- <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/asian-games-2026-medal-tally\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asian Games 2026 Medal Tally<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Participation and Skill Categories<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India participated with its <\/span><b>largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, covering advanced manufacturing, engineering, digital technologies, creative industries and specialised services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>India also made its debut in 11 new and emerging skill categories, including:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unmanned Aerial Systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intelligent Security Technology<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Software Testing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aircraft Maintenance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Optoelectronic Technology<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dental Prosthetics<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Interactive Media Design<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retail Sales<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three of India\u2019s six Silver Medals came in categories in which India participated for the first time &#8211; <\/span><b>Dental Prosthetics, Digital Interactive Media Design and Retail Sales.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian team was coordinated by the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-skill-development-corporation-nsdc\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Skill Development Corporation<\/a> (NSDC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with support from Sector Skill Councils, industry partners, training institutions, technical experts and trainers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>India secured 10th position, with six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across a diverse range of technical, creative and service-oriented skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>India\u2019s six Silver Medals were won in the following categories:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bakery \u2192 Smriti Nambiar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dental Prosthetics \u2192 Mohammed Salam<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital Interactive Media Design \u2192 Kovid Ajay Gangrade<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Industrial Design Technology \u2192 Parth Vohra<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Logistics and Freight Forwarding \u2192 Mehrunissa Begum<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retail Sales \u2192 Saniya Joshi<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Smriti Nambiar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who won the Silver Medal in Bakery, was also recognised as Best of the Nation for India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>India also secured 20 Medals for Excellence across occupations such as <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mechatronics, Autonomous Mobile Robotics, Industry 4.0, Additive Manufacturing, Robot Systems Integration, Automobile Technology, Chemical Laboratory Technology, Jewellery, Fashion Technology, and Health and Social Care.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Progress at WorldSkills<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s performance at the WorldSkills Competition has improved steadily over successive editions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">London 2011 \u2192 39th position<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leipzig 2013 \u2192 33rd position<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S\u00e3o Paulo 2015 \u2192 29th position<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abu Dhabi 2017 \u2192 19th position<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kazan 2019 \u2192 13th position and India\u2019s first WorldSkills Gold Medal<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lyon 2024 \u2192 13th position<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shanghai 2026 \u2192 10th position<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Shanghai edition therefore marked India\u2019s first entry into the top 10 of the WorldSkills Competition.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Medals for Excellence<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Medal for Excellence is awarded to competitors who demonstrate a high level of professional proficiency against internationally established WorldSkills standards. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s 20 Medals for Excellence at Shanghai covered technical, industrial, digital, creative and service-oriented occupations, demonstrating the breadth of skills represented by the Indian team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Significance for India<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 highlights the growing capabilities of its young skilled workforce. The competition provided exposure to new technologies, international occupational standards and global best practices, which can help improve training and assessment methods in India.
