{"id":126867,"date":"2026-09-30T13:18:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T07:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=126867"},"modified":"2026-09-30T13:18:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T07:48:26","slug":"fao-committee-on-forestry-governance-key-functions-latest-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/fao-committee-on-forestry-governance-key-functions-latest-news\/","title":{"rendered":"FAO Committee on Forestry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>FAO Committee on Forestry Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, India showcased it\u2019s forest and landscape restoration at the Twenty-eighth Session of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) Committee on Forestry (COFO 28) held in Rome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About FAO Committee on Forestry<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>FAO\u2019s (Food and Agriculture Organization)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> highest global <\/span><b>intergovernmental body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on forestry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It guides the organisation\u2019s work and fostering <\/span><b>international collaboration, policy dialogue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and technical guidance on forest-related issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Conference at its <\/span><b>Sixteenth Session in 1971.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COFO reports to the <\/span><b>FAO Council<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on matters related to programmes and budgets, and to the <\/span><b>FAO Conference<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on policy and regulatory issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its work is informed by <\/span><b>six Regional Forestry Commissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which review regional forestry priorities and inform global policy discussions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Meetings:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It convenes <\/span><b>biennially (every two years)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/food-and-agriculture-organization-fao\/\" target=\"_blank\">FAO<\/a> headquarters in Rome<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Italy<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It brings <\/span><b>together 128 Members, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">convening ministers, heads of forest services, senior government officials and partner organizations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Key Functions of Committee on Forestry<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It reviews the <\/span><b>programmes of work of the Organization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the field of forestry and reviews forestry problems of an international nature, evaluating said problems with a view to concerted action by Member Nations and the Organization.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It oversees the\u202f <\/span><b>Working Group on Dryland Forests and Agrosilvopastoral<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Systems, which supports the development of a comprehensive understanding of dryland ecosystems.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2316216&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAO Committee on Forestry highest global intergovernmental body on forestry.
