The latest review held in<\/span><b> September 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also outlined targeted measures for hotspots, vehicles, dust, waste burning, public transport, industries and green areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Delhi Air Pollution?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Delhi air pollution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> refers to the presence of harmful gases and particulate matter in the atmosphere of Delhi at concentrations that can affect human health, ecosystems and overall quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among different pollutants, <\/span><b>PM2.5<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is particularly important because these very small particles can penetrate deep into the respiratory system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 2026 assessment by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/commission-for-air-quality-management\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> identified PM2.5 as the dominant pollutant affecting Delhi&#8217;s AQI. It also highlighted that Delhi&#8217;s pollution is influenced by both <\/span><b>local emissions and pollution transported across the wider NCR airshed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Major Sources of Air Pollution in Delhi<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delhi&#8217;s air pollution cannot be attributed to a single source. Different sources become more important during different seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. Secondary particles can originate from pollutants emitted across the wider NCR airshed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Proactive Winter Air Quality Management Framework 2026-27<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Proactive Winter Air Quality Management Framework 2026-27<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is designed to control Delhi-NCR&#8217;s winter pollution through <\/span><b>advance planning, preventive action and coordinated enforcement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rather than waiting for air quality to deteriorate severely.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The framework focuses on <\/span><b>preventive measures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before and during the winter pollution season, broadly covering the period from <\/span><b>1 November to 28 February<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works alongside the <\/span><b>Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to strengthen preparedness and pollution control.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>\u2018No PUCC, No Fuel\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measure aims to prevent vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate from purchasing fuel at designated fuel stations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restrictions are planned on the entry of certain <\/span><b>non-<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bs-vi-norms\/\" target=\"_blank\">BS-VI<\/a> commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>1 November 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with specified requirements at construction sites.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Open burning of municipal waste, garbage and biomass<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is targeted through zero-burning measures, field monitoring and enforcement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The framework promotes <\/span><b>public transport, electric vehicles and last-mile connectivity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to reduce dependence on private vehicles.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Latest Delhi Air Pollution Measures in September 2026<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>September 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Centre and Delhi Government reviewed a time-bound strategy to control <\/span><b>Delhi air pollution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ahead of winter, focusing on vehicles, dust, construction, waste burning, industries and public transport.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>\u2018No PUCC, No Fuel\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measure will be implemented across <\/span><b>500 ANPR-enabled fuel stations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve vehicle emission compliance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>42 pollution hotspots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been rectified, while <\/span><b>8 additional hotspots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are targeted
