{"id":12738,"date":"2023-07-02T07:57:22","date_gmt":"2023-07-02T02:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12738"},"modified":"2025-04-01T21:17:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T15:47:38","slug":"state-disaster-response-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/state-disaster-response-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"State Disaster Response Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The amount includes<strong> Rs.1,209.60 crore<\/strong> as <strong>Central share of the <\/strong><strong>State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)<\/strong><strong> to four States<\/strong> (Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh) <strong>for year 2022-23<\/strong> and <strong>Rs.4,984.80 crore<\/strong> to 15 States (Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar etc.)<\/li>\n<li>The release of funds will help States undertake relief measures <strong>during the current Monsoon season.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h3>State Disaster Response Fund:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF),<strong> constituted under Section 48 (1) (a) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>primary fund available with State Governments<\/strong> for responses to notified disasters.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contribution:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Central Government contributes 75% of SDRF<\/strong> allocation for <strong>general category States\/UTs<\/strong> and 90% for special category States\/UTs (NE States, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disaster (s) covered under SDRF: <\/strong>Cyclone, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami, hailstorm, landslide, avalanche, cloudburst, pest attack, frost and cold waves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Local Disaster:<\/strong> A State Government may <strong>use up to 10 percent of the funds<\/strong> available under the SDRF for providing <strong>immediate relief to the victims of natural disasters<\/strong> that they consider to be \u2018disasters\u2019 within the local context in the State and which <strong>are not included in the notified list of disasters of the Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Based on the <strong>15th Finance Commission recommendations<\/strong>, the Central Government has allocated over <strong>one lakh 28 thousand crore rupees for SDRF for the years 2021-22 to 2025-26.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Cyclone?<\/h3>\n<p>A cyclone is a weather phenomenon characterized by a large-scale system of low-pressure air circulation that rotates counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere (clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere).
