{"id":127676,"date":"2026-10-06T13:32:44","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T08:02:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=127676"},"modified":"2026-10-06T13:32:44","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T08:02:44","slug":"fleet-support-ship-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/fleet-support-ship-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Fleet Support Ship-1 (FSS-1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Fleet Support Ship-1 Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defence Minister will soon launch the Indian Navy\u2019s first Fleet Support Ship, FSS-1, at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam, marking a milestone in India\u2019s indigenous shipbuilding programme. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Fleet Support Ship-1\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> first of five Fleet Support Ships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being built for the <\/span><b>Indian Navy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FSSs are being <\/span><b>developed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL),<\/b> <b>Visakhapatnam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a state-owned shipbuilding company.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ships are the <\/span><b>first of their kind <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being <\/span><b>constructed in India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Fleet Support Ship-1 <\/b><b>Purpose<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FSS will <\/span><b>supply ships at sea with fuel, water, ammunition, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>supplies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, allowing the Indian Naval fleet to stay at sea for longer periods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the vessels can<\/span><b> transfer all types of stores, victuals, and personnel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to naval vessels while they are at sea.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will also be capable of <\/span><b>handling multirole helicopters.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the vessels will be utilised for <\/span><b>evacuating individuals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and providing <\/span><b>human assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during disaster relief operations and delivering relief supplies quickly during natural disasters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Fleet Support Ship-1 <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vessel will be equipped with<\/span><b> diesel propulsion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> utilising a single-shaft configuration and a controllable pitch propeller.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an overall length of 200 m, a breadth of 25 m, and a draft of 10 m.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a displacement of 44,000 tonnes and a speed of 20 knots.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its complement is approximately <\/span><b>190 personnel.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ship will feature a double bottom and double hull in the cargo hold areas to enhance the range and duration of naval combat missions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/ddnews.gov.in\/en\/rajnath-singh-to-launch-navys-first-fleet-support-ship-in-visakhapatnam-on-october-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>DDN<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fleet Support Ship-1 is the first of five Fleet Support Ships being built for the Indian Navy.
