Mohana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, clarified that the Supreme Court had <\/span><b>not approved any modified Form 6<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Court said it would examine the ECI&#8217;s records to determine <\/span><b>who introduced the changes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the form. The observation came during the hearing of a petition concerning alleged unilateral decisions relating to the SIR exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Form 6?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Form 6<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the prescribed application form used by an eligible citizen for <\/span><b>inclusion of their name in the electoral roll<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the ECI, a person who is eligible to be registered as a general elector can apply through Form 6 before the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. The form can also be submitted online through the ECI or the concerned Chief Electoral Officer&#8217;s website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Form 6 is therefore an important instrument for <\/span><b>voter registration and electoral participation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Role of the Election Commission of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Election Commission of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a constitutional body responsible for the <\/span><b>superintendence, direction and control of elections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/article-324-of-the-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Article 324 of the Constitution<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the ECI has powers relating to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elections to the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/lok-sabha\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lok Sabha<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/state-legislature\/\" target=\"_blank\">State Legislative Assemblies<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elections to the offices of <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/president-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">President<\/a> and <a style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Constitution provides the legal framework for <\/span><b>electoral rolls, voter registration and the conduct of elections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through key provisions dealing with the Election Commission, non-discrimination and adult suffrage.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Article 324:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Vests the <\/span><b>superintendence, direction and control of elections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/election-commission-of-india-eci\/\" target=\"_blank\">Election Commission of India<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Article 325:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Provides for <\/span><b>one general electoral roll<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for every territorial constituency and
