She is remembered for her contribution to the revolutionary movement in Bengal and for the role she played in expanding women\u2019s participation in the armed freedom struggle.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Who Was Pritilata Waddedar?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Pritilata Waddedar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a <\/span><b>revolutionary from Chittagong<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who became associated with the underground nationalist movement during the early 1930s. She worked under the leadership of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/surya-sen\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Surya Sen<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, popularly known as<\/span><b> Masterda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and became one of the prominent women involved in the revolutionary activities of the Chittagong region.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pritilata Waddedar Early Life and Education<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Pritilata Waddedar was born on 5 May 1911 in Chittagong<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into the family of <\/span><b>Jagat Bandhu Waddedar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She was a bright and academically accomplished student who pursued her education across Chittagong, Dhaka and Calcutta.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She received her early education at <\/span><b>Dr Khastagir Government Girls\u2019 School, Chittagong,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and passed the Matriculation examination in 1928 in the first division.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She then studied at <\/span><b>Eden College, Dhaka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where she performed well in the Intermediate examination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pritilata later joined <\/span><b>Bethune College, Calcutta,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to study Philosophy and completed her Bachelor of Arts examination in 1932 with distinction.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During her student years, she also came into contact with nationalist activities and became associated with the <\/span><b>Dipali Sangha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a women\u2019s organisation involved in the nationalist movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After completing her education, she returned to Chittagong and became the <\/span><b>headmistress of Nandankanan Girls\u2019 School.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Her academic background, teaching career and growing exposure to nationalist networks formed the foundation for her later involvement in the revolutionary movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pritilata Waddedar Role in the Freedom Struggle<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pritilata entered the revolutionary movement in Bengal during a period when underground groups were using organised resistance against British rule. Her involvement brought women into a more direct role within the revolutionary network.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Entry into the revolutionary movement:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> After returning to Chittagong, Pritilata came into contact with <\/span><b>Surya Sen\u2019s revolutionary network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and became involved in its underground activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Revolutionary training and support:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> She received training in revolutionary methods and assisted the organisation by carrying messages, weapons and other materials.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Participation in the Chittagong movement:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> She became involved in the activities of the <\/span><b>Indian Republican Army, Chittagong Branch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which operated under Surya Sen\u2019s leadership.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dhalghat Encounter:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In June 1932, she was present at the <\/span><b>Dhalghat encounter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when British forces raided a revolutionary hideout.
