Popularly known as the <\/span><b>\u201cBard of the Brahmaputra,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he played an important role in taking the culture and concerns of Assam and Northeast India to a wider audience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Who was Bhupen Hazarika?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926<\/b> <b>at Sadiya in Assam.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He developed an interest in music at an early age and went on to become one of the most influential cultural personalities of Northeast India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He studied at<\/span><b> Banaras Hindu University (BHU)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and later went to the United States, where he earned a <\/span><b>doctoral degree in Mass Communication from Columbia University.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His exposure to different cultures influenced his understanding of music as a means of social communication. He worked in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi, helping regional cultural traditions reach wider audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Bhupen Hazarika\u2019s Contribution<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: Legacy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Bhupen Hazarika died on 5 November 2011 in Mumbai.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His legacy continues through his music, films and writings, which remain closely associated with Assamese cultural identity and the wider cultural heritage of Northeast India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Bhupen Hazarika Museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati preserves materials related to his life and work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Bhupen Hazarika Bridge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, India&#8217;s longest road bridge when inaugurated in 2017, connects Assam with Arunachal Pradesh across the Lohit
