{"id":128470,"date":"2026-10-11T14:22:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T08:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=128470"},"modified":"2026-10-11T17:29:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T11:59:43","slug":"nanda-devi-biosphere-reserve-upsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nanda-devi-biosphere-reserve-upsc\/","title":{"rendered":"Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new report \u201cNanda Devi Biosphere Decadal Monitoring Campaign 2026\u201d,\u00a0 has found that landslide-prone zones in the core have nearly doubled over the past decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Location: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is one of India\u2019s most important protected mountain ecosystems <\/span><b>located in the Western Himalayas of Uttarakhand.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes the <\/span><b>Nanda Devi National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Valley of Flowers National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of which are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reserve is recognised under <\/span><b>UNESCO\u2019s Man and the Biosphere<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (MAB) Programme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Geographical Features<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of rugged mountain ranges, deep gorges, glaciers and snow-covered peaks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elevation ranges from about <\/span><b>1,800 metres to over 7,800 metres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Glaciers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Numerous glaciers, including the <\/span><b>Uttari Rishi, Dakshini Rishi, Trisul and Ramani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> glaciers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Alpine meadows (Bugyals), temperate forests and <\/span><b>sub-alpine vegetation dominate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the landscape.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rivers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Rishi Ganga River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> originates from the glaciers within the Nanda Devi Sanctuary.
