{"id":128589,"date":"2026-10-12T13:19:59","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T07:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=128589"},"modified":"2026-10-12T13:19:59","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T07:49:59","slug":"national-household-travel-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-household-travel-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"National Household Travel Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Household Travel Survey Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Statistics Office (NSO) has released the key indicators and findings from the first ever National Household Travel Survey (NHTS).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Household Travel Survey<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is published by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-statistical-office-nso\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>National Statistics Office (NSO)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Primary objectives of the survey:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To <\/span><b>generate robust, data-driven insights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> into domestic travel patterns and dynamics to support regional transport planning, infrastructure development and evidence-based policy formulation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey captures key aspects of domestic travel, including:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Purpose of travel: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employment, education, social engagements, cultural and leisure activities, tourism, domestic work, caregiving and other purposes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Mode of transport:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Modes of transportation used by different demographic groups for undertaking trips.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Travel duration and distance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Average time taken and distances travelled during trips.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Major Findings of National Household Travel Survey<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Student Mobility:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Students in the <\/span><b>15-29 age group recorded the highest regular<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trip participation for daily travel to educational institutions, at <\/span><b>79.1 per cent in rural India and 73.3 per cent in urban India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Workforce Mobility:<\/b> <b>Male workers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recorded a <\/span><b>higher share<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of daily work trips of more than 1 km, at 61.9 per cent, compared with 41.9 per cent among female workers nationwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Commuting costs:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The average monthly expenditure on commuting to a fixed workplace stood at Rs 785 per worker. <\/span><b>Urban workers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> incurred an average monthly expenditure of Rs 1,044, compared with Rs 612 for <\/span><b>rural workers.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2319180&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Household Travel Survey is published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
