Tiger Reserve (PTR) seeks to demonstrate how the management of invasive species can protect biodiversity while simultaneously improving livelihoods of local populations. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Periyar Tiger Reserve\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the Idukki district of <\/span><b>Kerala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is set high at <\/span><b>Cardamom Hills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> Pandalam Hills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the<\/span><b> Western Ghats,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> adjacent to the border with Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It surrounds the<\/span><b> Periyar Lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which was created in <\/span><b>1895 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by building a <\/span><b>dam across the Periyar River.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Terrain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Pamba, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drain the area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Dams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Mullaperiyar Dam <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is located within the PTR.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Tribes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It is home to many tribal communities, including the <\/span><b>Mannans <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>Palians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It mainly comprises<\/span><b> tropical evergreen forests, semi- evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">transitional fringe evergreen forests, grasslands, and <\/span><b>eucalyptus plantations.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It includes <\/span><b>Banyan, Sacred Fig, Teak, Royal Poinciana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Kino, <\/span><b>Sandalwood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Rosewood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Mangoes, Bamboos, Jacarandas, Jamun, Tamarind, Gloriosa lily, and many more.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several species of mammals are found here like<\/span><b> Tiger, Gaur, Elephant, Sambar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Barking Deer, Indian Wild Dog, Mouse Deer, Wild Pig, Indian giant squirrel, Jungle cat, sloth bear, Nilgiri Tahr, ETC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>major four species of primates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are also found at Periyar \u2013 the rare<\/span><b> lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri Langur, Gee\u2019s Golden Langur, Common Langur, and Bonnet Macaque.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span
