position as the most peaceful country in the world, as per the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Global Peace Index<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Produced by the <\/span><b>Institute for Economics &amp; Peace (IEP),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the GPI is the world\u2019s leading measure of global peacefulness.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It ranks <\/span><b>163 independent states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and territories according to their level of peacefulness, <\/span><b>covering 99.7 percent of the world\u2019s population.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It uses 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators to measure the state of peace across <\/span><b>three domains<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the <\/span><b>level of Societal Safety and Security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; the <\/span><b>extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; and the <\/span><b>degree of Militarisation.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Highlights of <\/b><b>Global Peace Index <\/b><b>2025<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> 19th edition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the GPI.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It finds that<\/span><b> global peacefulness continues to decline <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and that many of the leading factors that precede major conflicts are higher than they have been since the end of WWII.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>More countries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>increasing their levels of militarisation.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are currently <\/span><b>59 active state-based conflicts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>most since the end of WWII <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and three more than the prior year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, <\/span><b>17 countries recorded over 1,000 conflict deaths.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the <\/span><b>successful resolution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of conflicts is <\/span><b>lower than at any point in the last 50 years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Conflicts that ended in a decisive victory <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fell from 49 percent in the 1970s to <\/span><b>nine percent in the 2010s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while <\/span><b>conflicts that ended through peace agreements <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fell from 23 percent to <\/span><b>four percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the same period.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s results found that the <\/span><b>average level of global peacefulness deteriorated by 0.36 percent.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Iceland <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">remains the <\/span><b>most peaceful country <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the world, a position it has held <\/span><b>since 2008<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>It is joined<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the top of the index <\/span><b>by Ireland, Austria, New Zealand, and Switzerland.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Russia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for the first time, is the <\/span><b>least peaceful country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world on the 2025 GPI, <\/span><b>followed by Ukraine, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Yemen.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Western and Central Europe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the<\/span><b> most peaceful region i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n the world, home to eight of the ten most peaceful countries, although its peacefulness has been falling over the last four years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>South America<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the <\/span><b>only region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world <\/span><b>to record an improvement in peacefulness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remains the<\/span><b> world\u2019s least peaceful region.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>South Asia,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>second least peaceful region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> globally, experienced the largest regional decline in peacefulness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>ranked 115<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the GPI 2025, <\/span><b>up one position<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from its 2024 spot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>most peaceful Asian countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were <\/span><b>Singapore
