{"id":129478,"date":"2026-10-18T15:45:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-18T10:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=129478"},"modified":"2026-10-18T15:45:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-18T10:15:47","slug":"martian-moons-exploration-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/martian-moons-exploration-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Martian Moons Exploration Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Martian Moons Exploration Mission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan is preparing to launch an ambitious Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission to one of Mars\u2019 mysterious moons, Phobos, by using Japan&#8217;s H3 rocket.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Martian Moons Exploration Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a mission of the <strong>Japan<\/strong><\/span><strong> Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission will <\/span><b>primarily focus on Phobos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Martian moon that has never been explored.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Focus:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It will observe the topography, internal structure, composition, and gravity of the moon, and return samples of sand.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to collect at <\/span><b>least 10 grams of material from Phobos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and return it to Earth in 2031.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also study both Phobos and Deimos, Mars\u2019 two small moons, to investigate their origins and evolution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission will travel to the Martian <\/span><b>system aboard Japan&#8217;s H3 rocket<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Tanegashima Space Center.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>scheduled to reach Mars in 2027<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will deploy a <\/span><b>small rover, developed jointly by the German Aerospace Center<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (DLR) and <\/span><b>France&#8217;s CNES<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to study the surface and support exploration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>NASA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is contributing two key technologies to this mission<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>MEGANE instrument<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will analyse the elemental composition of Phobos, and a pneumatic sampler designed to collect surface material.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Pneumatic sampler<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that uses high-pressure nitrogen gas to lift surface particles into a collection container.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/science\/story\/japan-to-launch-spacecraft-to-martian-moon-phobos-on-tuesday-bring-back-rocks-in-2031-3018849-2026-10-16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martian Moon Exploration Mission is a mission of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
