Rights Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Agriculture Minister at the 21st Foundation Day of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority said that the Plant Variety and Farmers\u2019 Rights Protection Authority Act will be amended.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established <\/span><b>on 11 November, 2005<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Act, 2001.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It works under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Agriculture &amp; Farmers\u2019 Welfare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Headquarter:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> New Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Objectives of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Grant intellectual property rights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to plant breeders for their innovations in developing new plant varieties<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Recognise and reward farmers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and communities who conserve traditional varieties and biodiversity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Promote the protection of farmers\u2019 rights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to save, use, sow, resow, exchange, share, and sell farm-saved seed of registered varieties<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Encourage research and innovation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in plant breeding and agriculture<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain the National Register of Plant Varieties (NRPV) and ensure the documentation and conservation of valuable germplasm resources<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Structure of<\/b> <b>the<\/b> <b>Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Chairperson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the Chief Executive of the Authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has <\/span><b>15 members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as notified by the <\/span><b>Government of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GOI).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Eight<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of them <\/span><b>are ex-officio members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> representing various Departments\/ Ministries,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Three<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from SAUs and the State Governments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>One<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> representative each for farmers, tribal organization, seed industry and women organizations associated with agricultural activities are nominated by the Central Government.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Registrar General is the ex-officio <\/span><b>Member Secretary of the Authority.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Registration of new plant varieties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, essentially derived varieties (EDV), extant varieties;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compulsory <\/span><b>cataloging facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for all variety of plants;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Preservation of plant genetic resources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of economic plants and their wild relatives;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintenance of the National Register of Plant Varieties and National Gene Bank<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2189315\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Authority is a statutory body established on 11 November, 2005 under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers\u2019 Rights Act, 2001.
