


{"id":12970,"date":"2023-07-10T03:29:37","date_gmt":"2023-07-09T21:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12970"},"modified":"2025-04-01T23:15:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T17:45:51","slug":"what-are-quadcopters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-quadcopters\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Quadcopters?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Quadcopters:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>unmanned aerial vehicle<\/strong> (UAV) or drone <strong>with four rotors, each with a motor and propeller.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A quadcopter can be <strong>manually controlled or can be autonomous.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s also <strong>called a quadrotor helicopter or quadrotor<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It belongs to a more general class of <\/strong>aerial vehicles called <strong>multicopter or multirotor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Principle<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The main principle<\/strong> behind the flight of a quadcopter <strong>is Newton&#8217;s Third Law of motion<\/strong>, which states that <strong>for every action there&#8217;s an equal and opposite reaction.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A quadcopter&#8217;s <strong>propellers push air downwards<\/strong>. This <strong>causes an opposite reaction called thrust<\/strong> that pushes the quadcopter upwards against gravity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Air movement comes from Bernoulli&#8217;s Principle<\/strong>, with larger propeller blades and faster rotation creating more thrust.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When the propellers rotate (for example clockwise), the quadcopter will tend to rotate anti-clockwise<\/strong>. <strong>Rotational force is<\/strong> <strong>called torque<\/strong>. Helicopters solve this by using a tail rotor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quadcopters solve this by driving two diagonal propellers clockwise and the other two anti-clockwise. <\/strong>Thus, torque from one pair cancels that of the other.<\/li>\n<li>When each diagonal pair of propellers rotate in opposite directions, <strong>their thrusts will be in opposite directions. The quadcopter will not be able to lift up <\/strong>or fly.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>This is solved by having the blades of each diagonal pair of propellers shaped as mirror images of the other pair. <\/strong>Effectively, all propellers will push air downwards regardless of the direction of rotation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>They provide <strong>stable flight performance<\/strong>, making them <strong>ideal for surveillance and aerial photography.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Quadcopters, after being airborne, <strong>have the ability to hover in place,<\/strong> whereas fixed-wing aerial drones have to be on the move constantly.<\/li>\n<li>Other application areas include <strong>delivery, land surveys, crop assessment, weather broadcasting,<\/strong> and more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quadcopters are an important part of future transportation called Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Bernoulli&#8217;s Principle?<\/h3>\n<p>In fluid dynamics, Bernoulli&#8217;s principle states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid&#8217;s potential energy.
