It is s<strong>andwiched between<\/strong> the <strong>Mudumalai National Park<\/strong> and the <strong>Silent Valley National Park<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The area was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1982 and <strong>upgraded to a National Park in 1990.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was established with the <strong>prime motive of conserving its keystone species \u2013 the Nilgiri Tahr.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/strong> and was <strong>formerly known as Nilgiri Tahr National Park.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is also <strong>home to Mukurthi Peak (2,554m<\/strong>), the fourth highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rivers<\/strong>: <strong>Pykara and Kundah rivers<\/strong> flow through the park along with several perennial streams that originate in the park and drain into the Bhavani Puzha.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>The majority of the landscape in the reserve is <strong>covered with shrubs and mountainous grasslands.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The area<\/strong> in the National Park which are <strong>at an elevation <\/strong>and experience high rainfall <strong>are covered with sholas and lush green tropical grasslands.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Along sholas, shrubs like Gaultheria fragrantissima, Helichrysum <\/strong>and Berberis tinctoria are found.<\/li>\n<li>Other plants which can be seen here are <strong>Rhododendrons, Cinnamon, Mahonia, Satyrium<\/strong>, Raspberries etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:The park houses some of the <strong>endangered wild species like Nilgiri tahr, Indian elephants, Nilgiri Langur<\/strong>, Bengal tiger and bonnet macaque.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What are Keystone species?<\/h3>\n<p>A keystone species\u2014which can be any organism, from animals and plants to bacteria and fungi\u2014is the glue that holds a habitat together.
