{"id":12994,"date":"2023-07-11T08:08:15","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T02:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12994"},"modified":"2025-04-01T23:27:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T17:57:30","slug":"what-is-project-75i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-project-75i\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Project-75I?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Project-75I:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Under this, the <strong>Indian Navy will procure six advanced conventional submarines processed through the Strategic Partnership (SP) model.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These will be <strong>diesel-electric submarines, having advanced Air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Project 75I r<strong>equires an Indian bidder to tie up with a foreign collaborator <\/strong>and <strong>build six conventional submarines equipped with AIP systems.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>first submarine must have a minimum of 45% indigenisation<\/strong>, with the indigenous content <strong>going up to 60% in the sixth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What are the types of Submarines?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Conventional or Diesel-electric submarine:<\/strong> <strong>They need atmospheric oxygen to run the diesel generator which in turn charges the batteries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nuclear Submarine:<\/strong> It is a submarine powered by a nuclear reactor, but not necessarily nuclear-armed. They have considerable performance advantages over conventional submarines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>What is an Air-independent propulsion (AIP) System?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>With the emergence of submarines, there was a problem finding satisfactory forms of propulsion underwater.<\/li>\n<li>AIP <strong>is mostly implemented as an auxiliary source<\/strong>, with the <strong>traditional diesel engine handling surface propulsion.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Most of these systems generate electricity, which in turn drives an electric motor for propulsion or recharges the boat\u2019s batteries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A typical conventional power plant provides 3 megawatts maximum, and an AIP source around 10 percent of that. A nuclear submarine\u2019s propulsion plant is much greater than 20 megawatts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key features of the AIP system:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It <strong>allows the submarines to stay for longer hours in water.<\/strong> The <strong>submarines need to come to the surface of the water to charge their batteries<\/strong>. This is reduced by the AIP System.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>decreases the noise levels made by the submarines.<\/strong> This makes it hard to detect the submarines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Types of AIP: Open-cycle systems, Closed-cycle diesel engine<\/strong>s, Closed-cycle steam turbines Stirling cycle engines and Fuel cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is the Strategic Partnership (SP) model?<\/h3>\n<p>The strategic partnership model seeks to identify a few Indian private companies as Strategic Partners who would initially tie up with a few shortlisted foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to manufacture big-ticket military platforms.
