{"id":12997,"date":"2023-07-11T08:48:49","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T03:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=12997"},"modified":"2025-04-01T23:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T17:59:10","slug":"what-is-the-urban-20-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-urban-20-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Urban 20 Summit?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Urban 20 (U20) Summit:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>city diplomacy initiative launched<\/strong> on December 12, 2017, at the <strong>One Planet Summit in Paris.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It provides a platform for cities from G20 countries to facilitate discussions on various important issues of <strong>urban development<\/strong> including <strong>climate change, social inclusion, sustainable mobility, and affordable housing,<\/strong> and propose collective solutions.<\/li>\n<li>C40 Cities (C40) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) convene the U20 under the leadership of a <strong>Chair city that rotates annually, based in the G20 host country.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This year it was chaired by the City of Ahmedabad.<\/li>\n<li>The Communique was officially <strong>endorsed by 105 cities across the world<\/strong>, the highest ever number of endorsements received to date for any U20 Communiqu\u00e9, and more than twice the number of endorsements for any previous communiqu\u00e9s.<\/li>\n<li>The Communiqu\u00e9 has been drafted as an action agenda for the <strong>six priorities identified collectively<\/strong> by U20 cities which include;\n<ul>\n<li>Encouraging environmentally responsible behaviours, accelerating climate finance, championing local culture and economy, ensuring water security, catalysing digital urban futures, and reinventing frameworks for urban planning and governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Climate change?<\/h3>\n<p>Climate change refers to long-term shifts in global or regional climate patterns, primarily caused by human activities, especially the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere.
