{"id":130293,"date":"2026-10-23T14:07:36","date_gmt":"2026-10-23T08:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=130293"},"modified":"2026-10-23T14:07:36","modified_gmt":"2026-10-23T08:37:36","slug":"shamonda-virus-upsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shamonda-virus-upsc\/","title":{"rendered":"Shamonda Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Shamonda Virus Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, France has reported the first known human case of Shamonda virus in a patient who died.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Shamonda Virus<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>insect-borne virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>Orthobunyavirus group.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It belongs to the same group as <\/span><b>Schmallenberg virus,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which causes reproductive disorders \u200bin livestock.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was first <\/span><b>detected in cattle in Nigeria in 1965<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it has since been found in parts of Africa and Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Transmission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is <\/span><b>transmitted by biting midges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and mainly affects cattle, though infections have also been identified in <\/span><b>sheep, goats, horses and alpacas.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Symptoms:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Symptoms include <\/span><b>fever, diarrhoea and reduced milk production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Reproductive disorder such as abortions and foetal malformations <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Neurologic disorders (reported less commonly and demonstrated in some horses)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Treatment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There are currently <\/span><b>no commercially available vaccines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against Shamonda virus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>First Human Infection:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Shamonda virus has historically not been recognised as a cause of disease in humans.
