News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences inaugurated the world&#8217;s first- of -its-kind &#8216;Air Pollution Analysis&#8217; facility for Delhi NCR known as &#8216;Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a specialised facility aimed at <\/span><b>identifying the sources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, composition and potential health impacts of <\/span><b>air pollution in Delhi-NCR.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is established <\/span><b>under Mission Mausam.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to provide <\/span><b>real-time information on pollution sources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their relative contributions, helping authorities <\/span><b>move beyond <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-air-quality-index\/\" target=\"_blank\">Air Quality Index<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-air-quality-index\/\" target=\"_blank\"> (AQI)<\/a><\/strong> readings to develop targeted pollution-control measures.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of AATAL<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is equipped to analyse <\/span><b>atmospheric gases, aerosols, fine particulate matter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PM2.5), metals, toxic elements and other pollutants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its capabilities will help distinguish between <\/span><b>pollution sources, including vehicular emissions,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> industrial activity, biomass and crop-residue burning, construction and road dust, and pollution transported from neighbouring regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also examine the <\/span><b>chemical characteristics of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pollutants to improve scientific understanding of their potential toxicity and implications for public health.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AATAL has been <\/span><b>integrated with IITM\u2019s AIRWISE,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>Air Quality Warning and Integrated Decision Support System for Emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which combines air-quality observations, forecasts and source-apportionment information.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AIRWISE provides forecasts at a spatial <\/span><b>resolution of 400 metres for the next 72 hours,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enabling authorities to assess how pollution levels and their likely sources may vary across different parts of Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system is intended to help identify locations likely to experience deteriorating air quality and provide advance information for preventive action.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would help the <\/span><b>Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other agencies plan targeted interventions and assess
