{"id":13101,"date":"2023-07-15T02:36:02","date_gmt":"2023-07-14T21:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13101"},"modified":"2025-04-02T00:21:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T18:51:24","slug":"grand-cross-of-the-legion-of-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/grand-cross-of-the-legion-of-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is it?<\/strong> The National Order of the Legion of Honour, or simply The<strong> Legion of Honour is the highest French decoration<\/strong>, <strong>both civil and military<\/strong>, and is one of the most famous national honours in the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Five Degrees:<\/strong> The Legion of Honour <strong>has five degrees of increasing distinction: three ranks \u2014 Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), and Commandeur (Commander) \u2014 and two titles \u2014 Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand-croix (Grand Cross).<\/strong> The Prime Minister has been <strong>honoured with the highest French honour, akin to the Bharat Ratna <\/strong>in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: The Order was <strong>established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802,<\/strong> and has been <strong>presented for more than the past two centuries<\/strong> on behalf of the French Head of State <strong>to its most deserving citizens in all fields of activity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Are foreigners eligible?<\/strong> Foreigners <strong>may be decorated <\/strong>with the Legion of Honour \u201c<strong>if they have rendered services (e.g. cultural or economic) to France or supported causes<\/strong> <strong>defended by France,<\/strong> such as human rights, freedom of the press, or humanitarian action\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The motto <\/strong>of the Order is: <strong>Honneur et Patrie, French for Honour and Fatherland.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Award<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>There is <strong>no material or financial benefit <\/strong>attached to the award.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The award badge is a five-armed Maltese asterisk hung on an oak and laurel wreath.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>On the obverse is the effigy of the Republic and on the reverse two tricolor flags surrounded by the motto. <strong>The color of the ribbon is red.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Bharat Ratna?<\/h3>\n<p>\u2018Bharat Ratna\u2019, the highest civilian Award of the country, was instituted in the year 1954.
