{"id":131030,"date":"2026-10-29T12:57:53","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T07:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=131030"},"modified":"2026-10-29T13:01:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T07:31:02","slug":"container-manufacturing-promotion-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/container-manufacturing-promotion-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Union Cabinet Approves Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme to Boost India&#8217;s Shipping Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to establish a <\/span><b>globally competitive container manufacturing ecosystem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by promoting domestic manufacturing and encouraging investment across the value chain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative seeks to <\/span><b>reduce import dependence and strengthen supply-chain resilience<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also supports <\/span><b>new manufacturing facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>expands existing container manufacturing units.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme provides assistance through major components: <\/span><b>investment support, operational expenditure, and testing and certification.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Components under Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Interest Subvention Assistance (ISA)<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ISA provides a <\/span><b>3% per annum interest subvention<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on eligible term loans (capital loans) availed by container manufacturers to set up <\/span><b>greenfield facilities and brownfield expansion of existing manufacturing capacity.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To qualify for this support, projects must meet the <\/span><b>following criteria<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Greenfield facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must have an annual capacity of at <\/span><b>least 1,00,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units\u00a0 (TEUs)<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brownfield expansions must add at <\/span><b>least 25,000 TEUs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of annual capacity to be commissioned within three years of in-principle approval, and comply with global container standards.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Operational Expenditure Assistance (OEA): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The component provides a financial outlay of <\/span><b>\u20b98,891 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to support containers manufactured as per global shipping standards and sold by eligible manufacturers.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Eligibility Criteria:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To avail support, manufacturers must meet a minimum <\/span><b>local-content requirement of 70%<\/b> <b>through FY 2031-32.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These criteria will further rise to <\/span><b>90% from FY 2032-33<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to strengthen the domestic supply chain.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Testing and certification assistance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A financial outlay of \u20b9150 crore has been allocated to support the setting up of <\/span><b>common facilities such as Dynamic longitudinal impact.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2329601&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Union Cabinet has approved the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS) to strengthen India&#8217;s domestic shipping-container industry and reduce import dependence.
