The maximum depth of the lake is 145 meters, making it one of the deepest high-altitude lakes on the entire globe.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a distinctive<\/span><b> Y-shaped appearance.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>lake&#8217;s outlet forms Suligad Waterfall,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also known as Phoksundo Waterfall, approximately 167 metres high, <\/span><b>regarded as the highest waterfall in Nepal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>clear, mineral-rich water glimmers in bright blue and turquoise,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> changing shades with the weather and time of day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was designated a <\/span><b>Ramsar site <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 2007 and <\/span><b>falls within Shey Phoksumdo National Park.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Dolpo people <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have lived around Shey Phoksundo Lake for generations and continue to practice the<\/span><b> ancient Bon religion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bon is one of the <\/span><b>oldest spiritual traditions of Tibet,<\/b> <b>predating <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/buddhism\/\" target=\"_blank\">Buddhism <\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for thousands of years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ringmo village, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with as many as <\/span><b>20 stupas and a Bon Gompa (temple) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also named Ringmo, is located on the<\/span><b> southern end of the lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Bon and Tibetan Buddhism are practised in the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/6-indian-tourists-missing-after-heavy-snowfall-in-nepals-shey-phoksundo-region-14056907.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>FP<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six Indian tourists have been reported missing during a trek to Shey Phoksundo Lake in Nepal&#8217;s Dolpa district following heavy snowfall.
