


{"id":13279,"date":"2023-07-21T07:45:37","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T02:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13279"},"modified":"2025-04-02T03:05:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T21:35:51","slug":"about-cinematograph-amendment-bill-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-cinematograph-amendment-bill-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"About Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2023:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It seeks to <strong>amend the Cinematograph Act 1952.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has provisions for <strong>harsher punishment for film piracy<\/strong> and the <strong>introduction of new-age categories for classifying films.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Film Classification:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has provisions to <strong>classify films on the basis of age group instead of the current practice of rating them<\/strong> &#8220;U&#8221; (unrestricted public exhibition), &#8220;A&#8221; (restricted to adult audiences), and &#8220;UA&#8221; (unrestricted public exhibition subject to parental guidance for children below the age of 12).<\/li>\n<li>The amendments <strong>seek to add new classifications \u2013 \u2018UA-7+\u2019, \u2018UA-13+\u2019, and \u2018UA-16+\u2019 in place for 12 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>seeks to bring about uniformity in categorisation of films and content<\/strong> across platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stricter Laws Against Piracy:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Bill holds <strong>stricter punishment for those responsible for piracy<\/strong>. This <strong>includes three years of imprisonment and a Rs 10 lakh penalty<\/strong> for those engaged in piracy.<\/li>\n<li>Once the Bill is released, the <strong>act of piracy will be considered an offence legally and will include even transmitting pirated content punishable.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>What is the Cinematograph Act 1952?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It was enacted by the Parliament <strong>to ensure that films are exhibited in accordance with the limits of tolerance of Indian society.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>establishes Central Board of Film Certification<\/strong> (CBFC, popularly <strong>known as the censor board<\/strong>) <strong>appointed by the Central Government to sanction and certify films<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Board <strong>scrutinizes the film<\/strong> <strong>in its entirety<\/strong> and based on the contemporary standard of Indian society following the procedure laid down under the Act.<\/li>\n<li>Board can <strong>either make a speaking order of rejection or grant the certificate<\/strong>, which shall be <strong>valid for ten years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Act also <strong>authorizes the police to conduct search and seizure<\/strong> <strong>if the film is being exhibited in contravention<\/strong> of any of the provisions of the Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Cinematography?<\/h3>\n<p>Cinematography is the art and craft of making motion pictures by capturing a story visually.
