{"id":13297,"date":"2023-07-21T09:07:08","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T03:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13297"},"modified":"2025-04-02T03:14:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T21:44:22","slug":"what-is-zombie-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-zombie-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Zombie fire?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Zombie fire:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>It is a fire from a previous growing season <strong>that can smoulder under<\/strong> the ground which is made up of <strong>carbon-rich peat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These smouldering fires also produce more smoke because of their lower temperature of combustion.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Why it occurs?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>As the <strong>organic-rich Arctic soils<\/strong> dry up because of changing climate conditions, they can burn slowly and release vast amounts of smoke into the atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li>One major culprit is the <strong>rising temperature<\/strong>: The Arctic is warming nearly four times faster than the rest of the world, a phenomenon known as Arctic amplification.<\/li>\n<li>Among the changing conditions that favour wildfires are <strong>changes in atmospheric circulation<\/strong> that create periods of extreme heat, dry out vegetation and reduce moisture in soils, and, importantly, lead to more frequent lightning strikes that can spark blazes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>What is the Impact?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>As the Arctic warms and fires move farther northward, peat soils rich in dead plant material burn at an accelerated rate.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>burning peat also removes the layer insulating permafrost<\/strong>, the region\u2019s frozen carbon-rich soil.<\/li>\n<li>Northern ecosystems store twice as much carbon in their peat and permafrost as the atmosphere, and both are increasingly vulnerable to fire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Arctic?<\/h3>\n<p>The Arctic is a region located at the northernmost part of the Earth, surrounding the North Pole.
