{"id":13309,"date":"2026-08-25T12:11:53","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T06:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13309"},"modified":"2026-08-25T15:06:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T09:36:49","slug":"what-are-waterspouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-waterspouts\/","title":{"rendered":"Waterspout"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Waterspout Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a rare weather phenomenon resembling a waterspout was observed over the Brahmaputra in Assam\u2019s Barpeta district.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Waterspout<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A waterspout is a <\/span><b>large column of air and mist<\/b> <b>rotating over a water body.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is less intense and typically <\/span><b>lasts for around five minutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 occasionally it can last up to 10 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The average waterspout can be <\/span><b>around 165 feet in diameter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with wind speeds of 100 kilometres per hour.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They occur when <\/span><b>there are high levels of humidity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and relatively warm water temperatures compared to the overlying air.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Types of waterspouts<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tornadic waterspouts<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are <\/span><b>tornadoes that form over water,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or move from land to water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have the same characteristics as a land tornado.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are associated with <\/span><b>severe thunderstorms, and are often accompanied by high winds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and seas, large hail, and frequent dangerous lightning.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fair-weather waterspouts<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">usually <\/span><b>formed<\/b> <b>under calmer conditions along<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the dark flat base of a line of <\/span><b>developing cumulus clouds.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is generally <\/span><b>not associated with thunderstorms.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is developed from the <\/span><b>water\u2019s surface upward.
