{"id":13358,"date":"2024-05-10T03:47:42","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T22:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13358"},"modified":"2025-10-03T10:53:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T05:23:03","slug":"batagaika-crater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/batagaika-crater\/","title":{"rendered":"Batagaika Crater"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Batagay Crater:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also called the &#8220;<strong>gateway to the underworld,&#8221;<\/strong> by some locals in Russia&#8217;s Sakha Republic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> It is located in <strong>Russia&#8217;s Far East<\/strong> that forms the world&#8217;s biggest <strong>permafrost crater.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a crater or megaslump, features a rounded cliff face that was first spotted on satellite images in 1991 after a section of hillside collapsed in the Yana Uplands of northern Yakutia in Russia.<\/li>\n<li>Scientists believe that the crater is the result of a melting permafrost land, which was frozen during the Quaternary <strong>Ice Age 2.58 million years ago<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Permafrost?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/permafrost\/\" target=\"_blank\">Permafrost<\/a> is any ground that remains completely <strong>frozen\u201432\u00b0F (0\u00b0C) or colder<\/strong>\u2014for at least <strong>two years straight.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Global Distribution<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>These permanently frozen grounds are most common in regions with high mountains and in Earth\u2019s higher latitudes\u2014near the <strong>North and South Poles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It covers large regions of the Earth. Almost a quarter of the land area in the Northern Hemisphere has permafrost underneath.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Snowpack?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/snowpacks\/\" target=\"_blank\">Snowpack<\/a> refers to the snow that has fallen on the ground and does not melt for months due to below-freezing temperatures is called a snowpack.
