{"id":13410,"date":"2023-07-25T05:47:34","date_gmt":"2023-07-25T00:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13410"},"modified":"2025-04-02T04:08:49","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T22:38:49","slug":"national-dental-commission-bill-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-dental-commission-bill-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"National Dental Commission Bill, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>National Dental Commission Bill, 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Bill seeks to <strong>repeal the Dentists Act, of 1948<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The bill also <strong>aims to make dental education affordable<\/strong> and <strong>make quality oral healthcare accessible.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It seeks to <strong>replace the Dental Council of India with the National Dental Commission<\/strong> (NDC).<\/li>\n<li><strong>National Dental Commission (NDC):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will <strong>draft policies and maintain quality standards<\/strong> <strong>in dental education<\/strong> <strong>and <\/strong>the <strong>profession.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The new commission will also <strong>regulate fees for 50% seats in private dental colleges.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The composition of the NDC will be <strong>similar to that of the National Medical Commission (NMC)<\/strong>, which had replaced the Medical Council of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The head office <\/strong>of the National Dental Commission shall be <strong>at New Delhi<\/strong> and it will <strong>consist of a chairperson; eight ex officio members; and 24 part-time members<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They will be <strong>appointed by the central government<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Members of NMC, health ministry, AIIMS<\/strong>, New Delhi will be <strong>among the <\/strong>eight <strong>ex-officio members.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Out of 24 part-time members, a total of 19<\/strong> members will be appointed on rotational basis <strong>from amongst the nominees of the states and union territories for two years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Other five members<\/strong> who will be appointed for four years will <strong>include two dental faculties <\/strong>from any central or state or autonomous government institutes; <strong>three members who have special knowledge<\/strong> and professional experience <strong>in areas including management, law, medical ethics,<\/strong> health research, consumer or patient rights advocacy, science and technology and economics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>According to Bill, the <strong>commission\u2019s members will declare their assets and liabilities<\/strong> <strong>at the time of entering and demitting office<\/strong> and also declare all professional and commercial engagements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dental Advisory Council:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Under the provisions of the bill, the <strong>central government will constitute an advisory body<\/strong> \u2013 the <strong>Dental Advisory Council<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The council will <strong>advise the commission and will also be the platform through which states and UTs will put forth their views<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It will also advise<\/strong> <strong>the Commission<\/strong> on measures to \u201cen<strong>hance equitable access to dental education<\/strong> and uniform system of examination.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Bill will make <strong>provision for a exit test for dentists on the lines of the National Exit Test<\/strong> that is likely to be implemented <strong>for those completing MBBS.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is the Dental Council of India?<\/h3>\n<p>The Dental Council of India (DCI) is a statutory body established under the Dentists Act, 1948.
