{"id":13566,"date":"2023-07-30T03:05:28","date_gmt":"2023-07-29T21:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=13566"},"modified":"2025-04-02T05:25:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T23:55:42","slug":"about-international-institute-for-population-sciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-international-institute-for-population-sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"About International Institute for Population Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About International Institute for Population Sciences:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was formerly known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) till 1970.<\/li>\n<li>It was established in July 1956 under the <strong>joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It serves as a regional centre for Training and Research in <strong>Population Studies for the ESCAP region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities.<\/li>\n<li>It was declared as a &#8216;Deemed to be University&#8217; on August 14, 1985, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.<\/li>\n<li>IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional population centres.<\/li>\n<li>It was the first such centre started, and it serves a much larger population than any of the other regional centres.<\/li>\n<li>The Institute is under the <strong>administrative control<\/strong> of <strong>the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Institute had conducted many prime surveys like National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey (DLHS), Assessment of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), YOUTH in India Project etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is population census?<\/h3>\n<p>A population census is an official and systematic process of collecting, compiling, and analyzing demographic and social data about the inhabitants of a country or a specified geographic area.
